Slovenia police clash with protesters ahead of vote

LJUBLJANA (Reuters) - Police used water canon to break up rock-throwing protesters in Slovenia's capital on Friday after a rally against budget cuts and alleged corruption turned violent two days ahead of a presidential election.

Officers said it was the first time they had used that level of crowd control since the country's independence from Yugoslavia in 1991 and 15 people, mostly policemen, were injured.

Thousands of Slovenians took to the streets in Ljubljana and six other cities in the financially troubled euro zone country, the latest in a series of protests.

"I'm protesting against the government because they are destroying our state, our educational, health and social systems. We have to show that we are against them and that they are not untouchable," a 47-year-old engineer Ziva Brcar told Reuters.

Some members of the crowd started throwing granite blocks and firecrackers at police in the capital, where about 30 people were arrested, said police.

Slovenia, which joined the euro zone in 2007 when it was the fastest-growing economy in the bloc, was badly hit by the global crisis due to its dependency on exports.

It is now in recession and struggling with weak exports, a fall in domestic spending due to budget cuts and increasing unemployment, while local banks are hit by rising bad loans.

The conservative government of Prime Minister Janez Jansa this year cut all public sector wages and most social benefits in order to reduce the budget deficit to 4.2 percent of GDP from 6.4 percent last year.

It plans further budget cuts in 2013 to bring the deficit to about 3 percent of GDP, normally the maximum level allowed for euro zone members.

The country holds a presidential election on Sunday with former centre-left prime minister Borut Pahor, who advocates a need for cooperation between the government and the opposition, expected to beat the incumbent centre-left president Danilo Turk.

The president, who has a five year mandate, is mostly a ceremonial figure.

Prime Minister Janez Jansa on Thursday called upon citizens to keep demonstrations peaceful.

"The situation is serious but there is no need to give up. We have all the potential to overcome the crisis by ourselves," he said in a statement.

Comelec opens party list to 13 families

Reynaldo Santos Jr.

MANILA, Philippines ? Thirteen organizations whose nominees come from the same families have been accredited for next year?s party-list polls, according to the complete list released by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday, November 29.

They include Ang Mata'y Alagaan (AMA), whose first 3 nominees upon application are members of Supreme Court Justice Presbitero Velasco Jr?s family. Also on the list is Ako Ang Batang Sora Movement, Inc. (ABSI), which counts 3 relatives of Quezon City congresswoman Mary Ann Susano among the 5 nominees each group is allowed to have.

For the 2013, the party list has become a sort of family affair for 36 of the 289 groups that applied for inclusion (165 new applicants, 124 accredited in 2010). Each of these 38 have 2-3 nominees who are related to each other.

Organizations applying for accreditation for the party list have to nominate 5 persons each to represent them. For every corresponding percentage of votes that the group garners, it can send to the House of Representatives the nominees who are first on the list.

AMA?s Nominees 1-3 were Justice Velasco?s wife Lorna and children Tricia Nicole and Vincent Michael. The poll body said earlier the group had replaced the Velascos as nominees, although it wasn?t clear when the substitution was made and who replaced them.

ABSI has Congresswoman Susano?s nieces Vanessa Rose and Maricel Francisco as first and fourth nominees, and her nephew Michael Ryan Francisco as fifth nominee.

Eleven other groups, each with two related nominees, have been accredited by the Comelec for the 2013 party list. They are:

  • Agrarian Development Association (ADA) ? Former Ilocos Sur Rep. Eric D. Singson and his son, incumbent Ilocos Sur Rep. Eric G. Singson Jr.
  • Agbiag! Timpuyog Ilocano Inc. (AGBIAG) ? Patricio T. Antonio and Jose Antonieto M. Antonio.
  • Agila ng Katutubong Pilipino, Inc. (AGILA) ? Gil A. Valera and Elorde B. Valera.
  • Ang Laban ng Indiginong Filipino (ALIF) ? Current ALIF Rep. Acmad Tomawis?s sons Abdul (his political liaison officer) and Agakhan.
  • Angkla: Ang Partido ng mga Pilipinong Marino, Inc. (ANGKLA) ? Jesulito A. Manalo and Jose Miguel S. Manalo.
  • Bagong Henerasyon (BH) ? Incumbent BH Rep. Bernadette Cruz-Herrera Dy and her husband Edgar Allan D. Dy.
  • Trade Union Congress Party (TUCP) ? Incumbent TUCP Rep. Raymond Democrito C. Mendoza and his brother Michael Democrito. They are sons of TUCP president Democrito Mendoza.
  • 1 Alliance Advocating Autonomy Party (1 AAA Party) ? Former Department of Transportation and Communications secretary and Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon D. Alvarez and Alfonso A. Alvarez.
  • Aasenso Sa Barangay - LAKAS Inc. (ASBI-LAKAN) ? Hermin E. Arceo and Ariel S. Arceo.
  • OFW Family Club, Inc. (OFW FAMILY) ? Former ambassador and National Labor Relations Comission chair Roy V. Se?eres Sr. and his son Roy M. Se?eres Jr.
  • Padayon Pilipino (PADAYON PILIPINO) - Vladimir R. Elazequi and Natasha E. Elazequi.

Twenty-three other groups with 2-3 related nominees were already disqualified by Comelec.

They include the Alliance of Organizations, Networks, and Associations of the Philippines (ALONA), whose nominees are House Minority Leader and Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez?s children Danilo Jr. and Joanna, and in-law Alexis.

Also disqualified was the National Crusaders for Peace and Democracy Inc. (NCPD), whose nominees include retired police general Romeo Maganto and his children Faith and Rommel.

Comelec Resolution 9366, or the rules and regulations governing the 2013 partylist elections, does not specifically state that having relatives as nominees of a single party is a basis for disqualification.

Having a single family as source for a number of nominees, however, tends to go against the main criteria that a group has to represent and to have nominees belonging to marginalized sectors.

The Comelec on Thursday released a list of 79 accredited groups for the 2013 party-list race. ? Rappler.com

Focusrite iTrack Solo

The more people make music with their iPads, thanks to the proliferation of music-creating apps, the more electronics manufacturers release new products to support and enhance these endeavors.?The Focusrite iTrack Solo ($199.99 list) brings the company's highly regarded microphone preamps and pristine audio interface quality to iPads as well as PCs and Macs?and at a reasonable, if not downright inexpensive, price point. It's a top choice if you need a basic but versatile audio accessory for your iDevices, for recording vocals, acoustic instruments, electric guitars, and anything else you fancy. As a result, it's our Editors' Choice for budget audio interfaces.

Design and Connectivity
The Focusrite iTrack Solo is?a 2 In/2 Out USB audio interface with 24-bit, 96KHz audio support, a single mic preamp, and a single 1/4-inch instrument input. You can't record anything in stereo with the iTrack Solo, though of course you can make stereo mixes out of your recorded tracks and supplement them with virtual instruments in stereo. If you need dual mic preamps or stereo inputs?say, for miking the bridge and frets of an acoustic guitar separately?you'll need to look at a more expensive interface.

As far as design, the iTrack Solo is surprisingly rugged. It?measures 1.8 by 6 by 4 inches (HWD) and weighs 1 pound, and is encased entirely in aluminum, which lends it a quality, precision feel the all-plastic M-Audio Fast Track lacks.

Focusrite iTrack Solo (Front)

Two gain knobs adorn the front panel, along with "halo" signal indicators that light up green with signal, and red whenever you override the inputs and need to back off on the input gain. There's also a 48V phantom power switch for condenser microphones, a Direct Monitor switch, a large monitor level dial that controls headphone and line out volume, and a single 1/4-inch headphone jack.?The back panel contains a pair of unbalanced RCA monitor outputs?balanced 1/4-inch would have been better?as well as a USB 2.0 port, a Kensington lock slot, and a Device Link port that connects the iTrack Solo directly to an iPad. All of the controls feel tight, precise, and satisfying to use, which is a nice surprise at this price point.

Focusrite throws in some useful software as part of the package, including Ableton Live Lite 8 and Focusrite's attractive Scarlett plug-in effects suite. You also get 1GB of royalty-free Loopmasters content and a copy of Novation Bass Station.?For this review, I tested the Focusrite iTrack Solo with a quad-core Apple MacBook Pro running Logic Pro 9, and a third-generation iPad with Retina Display running GarageBand 1.2.

Testing and Conclusions
Setting up the iTrack Solo with a Mac or PC is as simple as downloading the latest driver from Focusrite's site, installing it, and then connecting the device via USB. The iTrack Solo is self-powered, so you don't need the AC adapter when using it in this fashion. In testing, the interface worked exactly as advertised with the MacBook Pro and Logic. With Logic's I/O buffer size set to 64 samples, round-trip latency was 7.8ms; the 32 sample setting yielded 6.4ms of latency. Both are easily sufficient for real-time performance and recording. I tested the iTrack Solo in a back-to-back comparison with the M-Audio Fast Track; the iTrack Solo sounded a little more transparent and smoother in the mid-high range, although both were just fine for pro-level recording projects on a budget.

Using the iTrack Solo with an iPad is slightly more complex: You must plug the USB cable into the AC adapter, plug that into the wall, and then connect the iTrack Solo to the iPad using the Device Link port and supplied cable. For whatever reason, the 6-inch proprietary cable is exceedingly short and rigid. It basically necessitates placing the iPad and the iTrack Solo right next to each other. You also have to be careful with the weak-feeling plastic prongs?and by all means, make sure you don't lose it. But the hookup was drama-free, at least, and it worked on the first try in my tests.

Focusrite iTrack Solo (iPad)

With the iPad and GarageBand 1.2, the Focusrite iTrack Solo did its job beautifully once connected. I had no problems laying down a few instrument tracks with the internal sounds, and then recording audio on top of it. The Focusrite mic preamp sounded clean, warm, and full with the Rode NT-1A large diaphragm condenser mic I used for testing. Whenever the input signal crept too loud, the halo light around the gain dial changed from green to flashing red as advertised, and this was reflected in the recorded waveform as well. The Direct Monitor button lets you record and monitor audio directly, so there's no comb-filtering effect from the latency.

I suppose I could knock the iTrack Solo for its annoying cable-related setup. But the interface costs barely more than the competition, sounds great, and throws in native iPad capability. And it still functions as a regular stereo audio interface for PCs and Macs otherwise, for barely more than what non-iPad-compatible two-channel interfaces cost.?It's tough to ignore that kind of value, and the short proprietary cable issue only comes up when you use it with an iPad anyway.

The M-Audio Fast Track is the closest competitor; it's made of plastic and lacks native iPad support, but it's slightly less expensive and still delivers good sound quality. I'm a little worried about the situation with Avid, though; the company recently sold off M-Audio, but kept charge of the audio interface portion of the subsidiary's lineup, which leaves the future of the Fast Track in question. The Avid Mbox Mini ?is a more expensive and popular alternative; it also doesn't support iPads natively, but it comes with a free copy of Pro Tools SE and is built just as well as the iTrack Solo. Finally, if you're a Reason fan, the Propellerhead Balance ?costs significantly more, but it's well crafted and integrates more tightly with that software than any other interface I've tested.

Some Disadvantages Of Computer Technology

Every little thing nowadays is run by technology. Safety program runs the Safety for our residence, internet hosting monitors our internet web site, and programmable computer software does our activity such as recording, calculating, and information transferring. You just have to system it to do a certain job, and it will do what you wish it to do. No concerns ask. That is how fantastic technology can do to folks these days.

On the other hand, let us not often appear at the excellent side since Every thing has a negative side as effectively. Pc technology also, has it. It is not all the time that it operates the way we require it to be. There will come a time that it will quit operating. Why? It is simply because of several factors. For instance, our Pc gets infected by a Pc virus and you do not know it simply because the Computer system virus is also powerful that the antivirus that we have cannot detect it. This virus can go by way of our files and software program, destroy it, and quit it from operating. When this occurs, carrying out your everyday job will quit also. When it is left behind, it can lead to worse issues such as destruction and deletion of our files, and even method failure. If this occurs, you may well even want to replace your Personal computer with a new a single.

With all of this, you nonetheless can?t rely on your whole job with the use of technology. Make it a point that you too do it your self even some occasions.

2012 NCAA Football Rankings: Four Big Ten schools among Week 13 BlogPoll Top 25

The Ohio State Buckeyes capped off an undefeated regular season to rank as the highest of four Big Ten schools in the latest BlogPoll Top 25.

Despite finishing the year with a 6-6 record and punching their ticket to a bowl game, the Minnesota Golden Gophers were still unable to crack the latest BlogPoll Top 25 after 12 weeks of play.

The Gophers joined Michigan State, Wisconsin and Purdue as the four bowl-eligible schools from the conference to wind up without a single vote in this week's rankings. While the Penn State Nittany Lions fell just outside the top 25 with only a handful of selections, four schools including Ohio State, Nebraska, Northwestern and Michigan were each recognized by voters in Week 13.

After capping off an undefeated season with a narrow win over Michigan, Urban Meyer's Ohio State Buckeyes were once again the highest-ranked team from the conference by snagging the No. 6 spot this week. The Buckeyes moved up one slot after their latest win, but will not be able to play this postseason due to ill-timed NCAA sanctions. Despite losing to all three of the other top 25 teams aside from the Buckeyes, Jerry Kill's Gophers were outscored 90-17 Ohio State over the last two meetings and would have been no match for the Buckeyes this season.

It's not just taxes: Benefit cuts divide Democrats

In this Nov. 27, 2012, photo, White House press secretary Jay Carney speaks during his daily news briefing at the White House in Washington. Senate Democrats are deeply divided over whether cuts to popular benefit programs like Medicare and Medicaid should be part of a plan to address the nation?s financial problems, raising a big obstacle to an agreement to avoid the fiscal cliff, even if Republicans agree to raise taxes. Much of the focus during budget negotiations has centered on whether congressional Republicans would agree to raise taxes in exchange for spending cuts. "It is the president's position that when we're talking about a broad, balanced approach to dealing with our fiscal challenges, that that includes dealing with entitlements," Carney said Tuesday. (AP Photo/Pablo Martinez Monsivais)

(AP) ? It's not just about taxes. There's another big obstacle to overcome as Congress and President Barack Obama work to skirt the fiscal cliff: deep divisions among Senate Democrats over whether to consider cuts to popular benefit programs like Medicare and Medicaid.

Much of the focus during negotiations seeking an alternative to $671 billion in automatic tax increases and spending cuts beginning in January has centered on whether Republicans would agree to raising taxes on the wealthy. Obama insists that tax increases on the wealthy must be part of any deal, even as White House officials concede that government benefit programs will have to be in the package too.

But even if GOP lawmakers agree to raise taxes, there is no guarantee Democrats can come up with enough votes in the Senate to cut benefit programs ? as Republicans are demanding.

"We cannot come up with the solution for Medicare in the next two or three weeks," said Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate. "It's too important, it's too serious, when it comes to this fiscal cliff debate."

Durbin has long said Democrats must be willing to discuss cuts to benefit programs in exchange for tax increases on the wealthy. But, he said Wednesday, the issue is too complicated to address in a short postelection session of Congress.

Republicans complain that Democrats are taking issues off the table, even as more GOP lawmakers are reluctantly considering tax increases.

"Democrats like to pretend as though they're the great protectors of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid," said Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky. "They make solemn pledges all the time about how they won't even entertain a discussion about reform. What they don't say is that ignoring these programs is the surest way to guarantee their collapse."

There's a growing consensus among Senate Democrats and the White House that Social Security should be exempt from any deficit-reduction package. But some centrist Democrats in the Senate argue that fellow Democrats must be willing to consider cuts to Medicare and Medicaid in order to get concessions from Republicans on taxes.

"It has to be both ? a significant revenue increase as well as spending cuts," said Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.

Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., who is retiring as chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, said rising health care costs in Medicare and Medicaid are helping to drive future spending, making them an essential part of a long-term deficit-reduction package.

"I've been part of every bipartisan group here. We've always put everything on the table," Conrad said. "If you're going to solve this problem, you're going to have to deal with where the spending is and the revenue can be raised."

But senators like Baucus and Conrad increasingly are being drowned out by other Democrats emboldened by the recent election results to fight against benefit cuts.

"I think the election spoke very strongly about the fact that the vast majority of American people don't want to cut these programs," said Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa.

Further complicating the issue, some Democrats say they are willing to look for savings in programs like Medicare and Medicaid, as long as cuts don't lead to higher costs for beneficiaries. Obama's new health care law, for example, assumes more than $700 billion in Medicare savings over the next decade.

"I'm willing to look at ways of making the programs work better," Harkin said.

Congress and the White House are devoting the next three weeks to finding at least a bridge over the fiscal cliff by reducing the sudden jolt of higher taxes and spending cuts in January while laying a framework for addressing the nation's long-term financial problems next year.

Obama wants to let tax rates rise for wealthy families while sparing middle- and low-income taxpayers. Some Republican leaders, including House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio, have said they were willing to consider making the wealthy pay more by reducing their tax breaks. But most Republicans in Congress adamantly oppose raising anyone's tax rates.

Negotiations are going slowly as each side waits for the other to make concessions.

Democrats already have tried to take Social Security off the table. White House press secretary Jay Carney said this week that changes to the massive retirement and disability program should be done separately from any plan to reduce the deficit. That's the same position taken by 28 Democratic senators and independent Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont in a letter to fellow senators in September.

"We will oppose including Social Security cuts for future or current beneficiaries in any deficit-reduction package," said the letter, which was signed by many top Democrats, including Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada. In the House, Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi has taken the same position, not only on Social Security, but also on Medicare and Medicaid.

"There hasn't been the slightest suggestion about what they're going to do about the real problems, and that's entitlements," said Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, the top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee. "There's a certain cockiness that I've seen that is really astounding to me since we're basically in the same position we were before" the election.

YouTube Japan rolls in new 'original content' Trains, horror and drawing on faces

We've seen our fair share of out-there Japan TV programming -- and that looks likely to increase. YouTube has struck a deal with 13 companies that will add original shows and videos to the constantly-growing Japanese library, new videos promised daily. There's a pretty broad array of partners, with a slight focus on comedy and pop-culture, which should mean a shorter language hurdle for us occasional global viewers. Into high-speed trains? There's a whole channel dedicated to the Land of the Rising Sun's unsung tech export. We've got Catherine The Thirteenth (computer-generated chat show host, obviously) discussing the convenience of iPads after the break, but if we had a say in future channels, it'd throw in more mechanized beetle tanks and robot hotplate chefs.

Blood dripping from SUV leads to poaching arrests

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) ? Blood dripping from the back of an SUV led to the arrest of two Sacramento men accused of illegally shooting a deer, then stabbing it to death in their vehicle when it suddenly came to and began to struggle.

The Tahoe Daily Tribune (http://bit.ly/Uqv35O ) reports 46-year-old Scott Lee and 32-year-old Nai Saechao were arrested Nov. 18 on poaching, animal cruelty and other charges.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office says the California Highway Patrol received multiple calls from people reporting blood seeping out of a Toyota SUV near Shingle Springs, a small community in the Sierra foothills 40 miles east of Sacramento.

When authorities pulled over the vehicle, they found the deer carcass in the back. Officers say both men and the interior of the SUV were smeared with blood.

Acne in Women Can Signal Hormone Problems

Acne in adult women is common, but in some cases, it can signal an underlying hormonal disorder, experts say.

Identifying such cases is important, not only to better treat women's acne, but to correct hormone imbalances that can lead to other health problems, said Dr. Kanade Shinkai, a dermatologist at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, who specializes in acne treatments.

However, doctors often simply give women prescriptions for acne treatments, such as antibiotics, which typically don't work for acne caused by hormone imbalances, Shinkai said

Women who visit the dermatologist for acne and who experience signs of a hormonal disorder, such as irregular periods, should discuss their symptoms with their doctors, Shinkai said.

In addition, it's important for dermatologists to conduct a thorough medical history of their patients so that they can identify hormonal disorders that manifest as acne, she said.

Symptoms

Acne in adult women is often hard to treat. One study showed that 80 percent of women prescribed antibiotics for acne receive no benefits from the drugs, Shinkai said.

In these cases, the acne may stem from normal hormonal changes, such as those that occur around the menstrual cycle, or from a true hormonal disorder. For many of these women, medications that target hormones, rather than skin bacteria, would provide the most help, Shinkai said.

Women with acne may have elevated levels of male hormones such as testosterone, Shinkai said. Symptoms of this type of hormonal imbalance include hair growth on the face, a deepening of the voice, increased muscle mass and decreased breast size.

The most common cause of such a hormonal change is a condition called polycystic ovarian syndrome, or PCOS. Women suspected of having a hormonal disorder can be diagnosed by having a doctor check their blood for elevated levels of male hormones, or in the case of PCOS, an ultrasound of the ovaries.

Treatment

If a woman has PCOS or another type ofhormone imbalance, treating the underlying hormonal problem will help with the acne, Shinkai said.

Shinkai typically prescribes birth control pills to patients with PCOS, to lower their levels of male hormones. If those pills don't work by themselves, Shinkai adds another drug called spironolactone.

If left untreated, the hormone imbalances associated with PCOS may increase a woman's risk of cancer, as well as diabetes and obesity, which bring their own sets of medical problems, Shinkai said.

Birth control and spironolactone can also work very well against acne even in women with no hormonal disorder, Shinkai said.

Pass it on: An underlying hormonal disorder can sometimes cause acne in adult women.

Don't Be Bashful When You Talk To Credit ... - Doable Finance

Mon Nov 26, 2012, 2:00 am |

At the dawn of the so-called Great Recession, the country?s unemployment rate reached the highest level since the infamous Great Depression of the 1930s. As a result, many Americans were forced to take on crippling amounts of debt.

On top of that, when they tried to seek out help, they were bitten by snakes and squeezed by anacondas in the great swamp of financial miseries ? the quagmire of debt ? that they were thrown in.

They were unable to get out the sinking sand without the help of someone who could drag them out, wash them and start a new financial life.

They were seeking help from debt-settlement firms. Many folks have known for years that this industry has more bad apples than good ones. They are rife with scams.

Many such firms were created for the sole purpose of conning innocent consumers. The face of the bad was very similar to that of the good helper.

It?s hard to differentiate between the two kinds. Consequently, many folks were bitten by the bad kind and lost more to them than they owed to their creditors.

According to the Federal Reserve, as a nation, Americans owe $721 billion on outstanding credit cards. CreditCards.com did their calculations and came up with the staggering amount of $15,950 in credit card debt per household carrying only one card.

Just these numbers tell us that people want help ? any kind of help to get them out of the debt shit they have stepped in. However, only a fraction of people seek aid from a credit counselor.

Difference between Credit Counselor and Debt-Settlement Firms

We must understand the difference between a credit counselor and debt-settlement firms. Credit-counseling agencies have been getting bad raps unfairly because most folks confuse them with debt-settlement companies.

Credit counselors advise folks on how to make better budget and lifestyle decisions so that they can pay off their debt expeditiously. These counselors help debtors to develop a debt-management plan to pay back their creditors.

The best part is that you can attend many counseling sessions for free. Some counselors charge nominal fee, typically $20 per session.

On the other hand, debt-settlement firms offer to negotiate with a person?s creditors to slash the amount of debt they own. Many firms charge clients a large fee for their services.

Debt-settlement firms are rife with scam artists and the primary reason is that historically they charge huge fees. There is a lot more money to be made if you own or work for a debt-settlement firm.

Fortunately, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), formed in 2010, has started to address some of those problems, but for many years deceptive debt-settlement agencies operated without a watchdog.

Even today under the watchful eyes of CFPB, some individuals and firms have been alleged to have deceived the American public, especially the senior citizens among us.

Be open to Credit Counselor?

There are misconceptions about consulting credit counselors:

  • Many folks are afraid that consulting a credit counselor will hurt their credit score. Nothing can be further than the truth. Talking to one has no impact on a person?s credit or credit report.

  • Walking into a physical location of a credit counselor can be intimidating and detrimental to their ego, especially if the person doesn?t want to admit face-to-face how much deep they have stepped in the quagmire of debt.

  • The sense of shame that can accompany having to admit to a credit counselor they owe a heap of debt. This does not make sense in the case of folks who don?t feel ashamed when they keep on buying even when they don?t need to.

Red flags why you must talk to credit counselor?

You ought to consult a reliable and reputable credit counselor when these red flags are raised.

  • Debt collectors are at your doorstep. They keep calling you day and night. You are unable to sleep because of your debt. In this case, the sooner you can get to a credit counselor, the better.

  • You cannot repay a single dime towards your debt. You live paycheck to paycheck. Wake up and seek help.

  • Debt is creating tension and uneasiness in your family. Media report many cases of divorces due to not being able to pay off debt.

  • When you receive bills, you hide it from the family. You are ashamed to even show them the bill let alone talk about them.

  • You are using cash advances on your credit card or you may be using the services of payday loans. In both cases, you are stepping deeper and deeper in the sinking sand.

  • A time comes when you don?t even care how much you are in debt. That means there is no way you alone can manage ? to say the least ? or clean your debt shit.

  • Your credit card has a maximum in a given month. You keep maxing out your card every month. Wake up and smell the credit counselor.

  • If you have retirement account, you start and keep withdrawing from it.

In a Nutshell
Credit counselors, because they are a lot less expensive ? can I use the word cheap? ? can be a great help to come up with a budget for your household finances.

The important thing to remember is ?Don?t Be Bashful When You Talk To Credit Counselor.? Open up your little gray cells (Agatha Christie) and start talking about your debt to the credit counselor.

The Credit Card Song by Old Man Pie

Ahead of its time this is a cartoon animation that?s been up on the web since 2006 and is all about the credit crunch crisis.

Credit card spending and loans from banks are in their trillions of dollars and something has to give. We no longer spend what we have earned, we spend what we haven?t earned on the back of house price rises and yet more loans.

The banks are prospering and fat cats are awarding themselves massive bonuses, but it cannot continue.

Beware the debt time bomb may bring the walls of the western world clattering to the ground.

Tips For Understanding Auto Insurance In Today's World | Bob ...

Auto insurance is large part of being a responsible vehicle owner. However, auto insurance policies seem to be written in the most confusing terms possible. This article can help you to better understand what all of those terms mean. By understanding the terms of the auto insurance world, you will be a more informed consumer.

Be careful when you are driving, you need to be sure the cost of your car insurance stays low. You are likely to get a good driver discount, if you avoid accidents and tickets. These discounts will save you money, and may increase each year you go without having an accident or violation. It will also keep your premiums from rising.

TIP! If you drive a car, many states require you to have adequate liability insurance. You have the responsibility to be aware of coverage levels for your state, and to acquire insurance appropriate to those requirements.

After you purchase new auto insurance, remember that in many states insurance companies can revoke insurance for several reasons during the grace period. Make sure to always keep other insurance carrier information handy even if your financial history and driving record is stable, just in case you have to buy another policy.

Driving Record

Your car insurance is strongly affected by traffic tickets and points influencing your driving record. Similarly, when tickets and driving record points are no longer on your record, you can also see a drop in car insurance rates. Make sure you get a new quote after your old infractions expire to take advantage of your lower rates.

TIP! There is a mistaken belief that owning a sports car will make your insurance premiums higher, but don?t let this keep you from purchasing one. Some of them, in fact, do not.

Senior citizens are responsible for a high percentage of accidents which occur during daylight hours. This fact can raise rates, but also make it difficult for some seniors to get coverage at all.

Armed with a list of available discounts, mark off the ones you qualify for and total up how much you stand to save. You may be shocked at how much these discounts can lower your insurance bill.

If you are going to change companies, ensure that you have cleared up any money you owe to anyone. Companies will look over your driving record; pay any fines that you owe. Unresolved traffic issues lead to higher insurance premiums.

TIP! If you want to save money on an insurance policy, you should consider moving out of state or to another city. All states and cities have different premiums that you need to pay, as well as different requirements that you must meet.

When you are buying a car, be sure to check on the insurance rates. You can ask an insurance agent about the vehicles that have great rates. Knowing the rates can help you in choosing the car that is best for you. Your insurance premiums will be a lot lower if you make sure your new car is one with an excellent safety rating.

Talk to your automobile insurance agent and have them give you a list of the discounts they offer. Go through the list to make sure you are getting as many discounts as possible to maximize the amount of money you save.

Make sure to stay informed about basic insurance terms prior to searching for a company to get a policy from. While some states have different insurance rules, the concepts behind insurance are fairly similar. You should check quotes online and learn the terminology prior to speaking to a carrier. This will help you better understand your options so you will be sure to pick the best one for you.

Keep on file all records of all insurance bills you paid. You?ll need your records for proof of payment should there ever be an issue with the insurance company.

Supplementary Insurance

Check with your insurer to see if your policy pays for car rentals. This way you can avoid the costs of having to pay for supplementary insurance to cover rentals. Supplementary insurance can cost up to $20.00 a day while your automobile is being repaired, which may take days or weeks before it?s fixed. 00 every day while repairs to your car continue.

TIP! Several factors determine auto insurance rates. Some of these criteria include whether you are married, how old you are and your gender.

Coverage on policies can vary; therefore, it is important to understand what coverage is included in your policy. There are several common coverages that fall under the umbrella of auto insurance, including medical expenses and bodily injury. Be careful; some options are not available unless you have requested them, such as collision insurance. In many cases, the basic level of coverage doesn?t pay out to you at all; for example, ?liability coverage? only pays for damages that you are liable for, not your expenses. You need to make sure that your insurance covers your needs as well.

Auto insurance contracts are written in such a way that every legal angle is covered in the event of a lawsuit, but this makes the language harder for a layperson to understand. If you take the time to educate yourself, you will become a smarter consumer. It is important that you know as much as you can about insurance, and you can become an informed consumer by reading this article.

Israel successfully tests new missile defence system against mid-range missile threat

JERUSALEM - Israel successfully tested its newest missile defence system Sunday, the military said, a step toward making the third leg of what Israel calls its "multilayer missile defence" operational.

The "David's Sling" system is designed to stop mid-range missiles. It successfully passed its test, shooting down its first missile in a drill Sunday in southern Israel, the military said.

The system is designed to intercept projectiles with ranges of up to 300 kilometres (180 miles).

Israel has also deployed Arrow systems for longer-range threats from Iran. The Iron Dome protects against short-range rockets fired by militants in the Gaza Strip and Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon. Iron Dome shot down hundreds of rockets from Gaza in this month's round of fighting.

Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak said the success of Iron Dome highlighted the "immense importance" of such systems.

"David's Sling," also known "Magic Wand," is developed by Israel's Rafael Advanced Defence Systems and U.S.-based Raytheon Co. and is primarily designed to counter the large arsenal of Hezbollah rockets in Lebanon.

The military said the program, which is on schedule for deployment in 2014, would "provide an additional layer of defence against ballistic missiles."

The next generation of the Arrow, now in the development stage, is set to be deployed in 2016. Called the Arrow 3, it is designed to strike its target outside the atmosphere, intercepting missiles closer to their launch sites. Together, the two Arrow systems would provide two chances to strike down incoming missiles.

Israel also uses U.S.-made Patriot missile defence batteries against mid-range missiles, though these failed to hit any of the 39 Scud missiles fired at Israel from Iraq In the first Gulf War 20 years ago. Manufacturers say the Patriot system has been improved since then.

Making Money From Home: A GVO Review - Internet Business ...

Looking for ways to earn extra cash can be a big task. It is hard to tell which among the opportunities are actually worth investing time and effort. As people are becoming more and more aware of the wonderful earning opportunities at home, companies are also creating ways to sell some of these ideas to people. As a newbie, it is imperative to do some research before plunging into anything to avoid wasting time, effort and money.

One of the great ways to earn at home is through Internet marketing. Yes, it is true that even housewives can earn as much as their husbands or even more now that technology has given birth to opportunities via web. Internet marketing is the hottest craze not only for big companies but for home based investors as well.

Internet marketing is the process of advertising products or services through the use of Internet. The scope of Internet marketing can be very broad as it comes with a lot of technical and creative aspects. Some people also call Internet marketing as e-marketing, web marketing, online marketing and web advertising.

The way Internet marketing works is something that cannot be memorized overnight but the bottom line is very easy to understand. It is to provide companies a way to connect to their customers interactively through the use of computers, mobile phones, tablet PCs and the like through websites which people are able to access through the use of Internet. For this reason, even those who are simply at home are given the opportunity to earn a lot as long as they have stable Internet connection and clients who are willing to pay them.

Working home based or online does not mean instant cash however earning is truly faster compared to most jobs that people do outside of their homes. A good example of Internet marketing is through SEO, also called as search engine optimization. The secret behind Google and other search engines? success is through this process wherein pages earn based on how they are ranked. The ranking depends on how popular the page is. This is where home based employees do their part to help companies achieve the popularity they need.

There are different things that people do for companies to get the rank that they want. For instance, some companies hire people who can assign keywords that people usually search online. These keywords are linked to their web pages so whenever someone types any of the keywords, all web pages or websites containing these keywords would appear on the search results page. Another tricky part of this process is that in order to get a high rank, a website should have high web traffic which will only be achieved if many people are opening that page. For this, some companies assign people who can click on their banner ads which counts as guests visits thus making the page popular enough to get a higher rank. These tasks can be done at the comfort of one?s home yet another question is how to make these things possible if there are no people who will create banner ads and websites.

It is true that not all people have a techie thumb despite all the new things invented to make life easy. For this reason, there are companies that offer solutions to those who want to maximize their opportunities and yet do not have the know-how when it comes to these matters. One of the trusted names in the industry when it comes to web based solutions is GVO. You may want to read this short GVO review to get an idea of what they can do for you.

?

GVO is a company that was established by a knowledgeable Internet and networking specialist, Joel Therien, who has more than a decade of experience in this field. Together with his team, Joel established GVO which aims to provide assistance and exceptional web hosting services to companies that want to maximize their profits without hassles. Through the years, they have been able to provide fast and reliable hosting services which they continuously provide today.

GVO has different packages to suit different web hosting needs. To know more about these services, it is best to do some research. One can read through any GVO review to gain more knowledge on how the system works. It is expected that there are pros and cons to every business so it is possible to find a GVO review that is negative and a GVO review that is positive. What is important is to weigh the GVO review well before jumping into conclusions to avoid losing possible opportunities. One thing though, many customers trust GVO because they are always professional and on-time when it comes to support and service so companies can expect more income since there is less down-time which is one of the important things that customers and clients look at when doing online business.

Leonid meteor shower: When and where to watch

Leonid meteor shower: The meteor shower peak will come tonight (3 a.m. E.T.? Saturday). The Leonid meteor shower is a product of the Earth passing through the tail of the Tempel-Tuttle comet.

This weekend brings us the return of the famous Leonid meteor shower, a meteor display that has brought great anticipation and excitement to night sky watchers around the world.

This will be a favorable year to look for the Leonid meteor shower because the moon will be only crescent and will have set in the west long before the constellation Leo begins to rise into the night sky. The Leonids appear to radiate out of Leo (hence their name), and with the moon out of the sky completely, viewing conditions could be perfect for stargazers with clear weather and dark skies.

The Leonid meteors are debris shed into space by the comet Tempel-Tuttle, which swings through the inner solar system at intervals of 33 years. With each visit the comet leaves behind a trail of dust in its wake. Much of the comet?s old dusty trails litter the mid-November part of Earth?s orbit and the Earth glides through this debris zone every year.?

RECOMMENDED: Are you scientifically literate? Take the quiz

Occasionally, Earth passes directly through an unusually concentrated dust trail, or filament, which can spark a meteor storm resulting in thousands of meteors per hour. That?s what happened in 1999, 2001 and 2002.? Since the Tempel-Tuttle comet passed the sun in 1998, it was in those years immediately following its passage that the Leonids put on their best show.?

But now, the comet and its dense trails of dust have all receded far outside Earth's orbit and back into the outer regions of the solar system. So odds are that there is little, if any chance of any unusual meteor activity. [Photographer Spots Early Leonid Meteors (Video)]

Peak times to see the Leonids

In the 2012 Observer?s Handbook of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, meteor experts Margaret Campbell-Brown and Peter Brown, indicate that this year?s peak activity should occur on Saturday morning, Nov. 17, at about 3 a.m. ET (0800 GMT). This is the moment when the Earth will be passing closest to the orbit of the long-departed comet, and when our planet seemingly is most likely to encounter some residual comet material. This time is highly favorable for North Americans, especially those in the eastern United States and eastern Canada. [Top 10 Leonid Meteor Shower Facts]

But while Leonid rates are unpredictable, it is unlikely that more than 10 to 20 meteors per hour may be seen this year.

Other meteor researchers, however, such as Jeremie Vaubaillon of France, and ?Mikhail Maslovof Russia have examined Leonid prospects for this year and also suggest watching for some meteor activity three days later, on Tuesday morning, Nov. 20.?

View Vaubaillon?s depiction of Earth?s track through the meteor stream. View Maslov?s website on the 2012 Leonids here.

For example: Sometime around 1 a.m. EST (0600 GMT), the Earth may interact with material that was shed by comet Tempel-Tuttle back in the year 1400. But at best, only about 15 to20 Leonids per hour may be seen.?

Yahoo's Log-In Page Ad Sell-Through Crashed - Business Insider

Good morning, Adland. Here's what you need to know today:
  • The ad sales on?Yahoo's?log-in page, usually a coveted spot for advertisers, have fallen drastically from last year, says a report from Macquarie Equities Research.?While Yahoo had ads on the log-in 86 percent of days in the first half of the fourth quarter last year, there are only ads 47 percent of the time this year. Ad Age reports that, "The sell-through rate doesn't necessarily mean that ad revenue tied to the log-in page has plummeted, since it's possible, though unlikely, that Yahoo has jacked up the price of those ad units." (Emphasis is ours.)

Chris Stedman Is A Faithist: Atheists Involved In Interfaith Dialogue

(RNS) As the assistant humanist chaplain at Harvard University, Chris Stedman coordinates its "Values in Action" program. In his recent book, "Faitheist: How an Atheist Found Common Ground with the Religious," he tells how he went from a closeted gay evangelical Christian to an "out" atheist, and, eventually, a Humanist.

On the blog NonProphet Status, and now in the book, Stedman calls for atheists and the religious to come together around interfaith work. It is a position that has earned him both strident -- even violent -- condemnation and high praise. Stedman talked with RNS about how and why the religious and atheists should work together.

Some answers have been edited for length and clarity.

Q: What does the term "faitheist" mean? Is it a positive label or a derisive one?

A: It's one of several words used by some atheists to describe other atheists who are seen as too accommodating of religion. But to me, being a faitheist means that I prioritize the pursuit of common ground, and that I'm willing to put "faith" in the idea that religious believers and atheists can and should focus on areas of agreement and work in broad coalitions to advance social justice.

Some people have suggested I think atheists shouldn't critique harmful religious beliefs, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I do, however, think that atheists should be responsible, fair, accurate, and specific when offering robust criticisms of religious dogmas -- and that we should focus more energy on working with the religious on identifying shared values and acting to advance common goals than we currently do.

Q: You are both an atheist and a humanist. What's the difference?

A: I am an atheist because I do not believe in any gods, but Humanism speaks to my values. It's descriptive of what I do believe. Humanism is my philosophy.

I believe that humans have the capacity, and the responsibility, to work together in solving our own problems. I value reason and critical thinking in the service of compassion. And I find that participating in the Humanist community and considering Humanist ethics help me to express -- and act upon -- my highest principles and greatest aspirations.

Q: You write that the atheist community is often defined by the "New Atheists" and their aggressive stance against religion. Isn't the term atheist a negative by definition?

A: When I first became active in the atheist movement, I was taken aback by the degree of hostility I saw directed toward religion and, in many cases, religious believers. It has often felt to me that atheism and anti-theism are treated as synonyms by many segments of the atheist community, when they are in fact different.

This "face" of atheism estranges many atheists who do not agree with the strategies and positions put forth by some of the more visible atheists. I believe it is counterproductive, and often harmful, to assume that being an atheist means you should focus your activism on trying to bring about the end of religion. My top priorities as an atheist and a Humanist are promoting pluralism, education, and compassion; these are goals I share with many religious people, and they are things we can work on together.

Q: If atheists by definition don't have faith, why should they seek to be included in interfaith work?

A: Interfaith work seeks to humanize religious diversity and erode tribalistic divisions. It promotes religious literacy and freedom of expression and conscience, and if atheists don't participate, we risk not being included in interfaith efforts' vision for a pluralistic world. The term "interfaith" may be imperfect, but in my experience it does not exclude atheists -- and when it does, that's something we should work to change.

Q: You write that atheists and religious people need to find better ways of talking to each other. How? Why should they?

A: Storytelling is one good way to begin a conversation between atheists and the religious, which is why I wrote my book as a memoir. Stories humanize diversity for people who might feel that other communities are impossible to connect with -- they invite people to empathize with people who have different beliefs and experiences.

Interfaith dialogue gets a bad rap as a project concerned with surface level "feel good" conversations, but it doesn't have to be that way. When done well, interfaith work doesn't deny the very real and important differences that exist between people of faith and the nonreligious -- but it does concern itself with the pursuit of identifying shared values, instead of just focusing on the things that divide us. Atheists and religious believers often talk past one another, and interfaith work creates a space for different people to listen to one another.

Global shares, euro rally on Greek hopes, German data

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Global stocks and the euro rose on Friday on signs of progress in talks about releasing aid to Greece and after an influential German survey found business sentiment had improved in Europe's largest economy.

Wall Street got a lift from bellwether technology stocks such as Intel and Microsoft - each up about 2 percent. An index of semiconductor stocks gained 1.8 percent, while the S&P information technology sector index rose 1.2 percent.

Friday marked the start of the holiday shopping season and gave investors a reason to scoop up retailers' shares on hopes that consumers will go out en masse to spend.

Regular U.S. stock trading session will end early on Friday at 1 p.m. (1800 GMT). The stock market was closed on Thursday for the Thanksgiving holiday. With many investors away on holiday, volume was low. About 1.9 billion shares have traded so far on the New York Stock Exchange, the Nasdaq and the NYSE MKT, compared with the daily average for the year to date of 6.5 billion.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 106.42 points, or 0.83 percent, at 12,943.31. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 11.89 points, or 0.85 percent, at 1,402.92. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 32.30 points, or 1.10 percent, at 2,958.85.

European shares posted their best weekly gain so far this year after rising for a fifth day on Friday. The FTSEurofirst-300 index of pan-European shares rose 0.6 percent to end at 1,110.45.

Germany's BASF and Bayer led a rally in chemical stocks after a German business morale index surprised with its first increase in seven months, raising the prospect that Europe's largest economy can regain some momentum.

The euro rose as high as $1.2943 on Reuters data, breaking above resistance at $1.2910, its 55-day moving average. It was last trading at $1.2941, up 0.5 percent on the day.

Against the yen, the euro also hit a seven-month high of 106.73 yen and was last at 106.65 yen, up 0.4 percent.

MSCI's world equity index was up 1 percent on Friday at 329.42 points. It was on track to record its best weekly performance since mid-September.

Earlier, MSCI's broadest index of Asia Pacific shares outside Japan rose 0.7 percent for a weekly gain of 2.6 percent, also its best week for two months.

Optimism about a deal to help Greece, hopes that United States lawmakers can agree on a solution to avoid a fiscal crisis, and data showing an improving global economic outlook have driven a rally in riskier asset markets this week.

Greece said the International Monetary Fund had relaxed its debt-cutting target for the country, suggesting lenders were closer to a deal for a vital aid tranche to be paid. But other sources involved in the talks cautioned that the funding gap was far bigger than Greece has suggested.

"While we wouldn't want to understate the challenges of reaching agreement on Greece, news reports have described some of the remaining obstacles as technical and legal, and thus the hurdles to a deal do not seem insurmountable," said Nick Bennenbroek, head of currency strategy at Wells Fargo in New York.

Euro-zone finance ministers, the IMF and the European Central Bank (ECB) failed earlier this week to agree on how to get the country's debt down to a sustainable level. They will make a third attempt at resolving the issue on Monday.

"Anything positive out of Europe related to the sovereign debt ... that can act as a catalyst," said Todd Salamone, director of research at Schaeffer's Investment Research in Cincinnati.

The S&P 500 looked likely to break a two-week losing streak, having gained more than 3 percent this week so far. Stocks had tumbled earlier in the month on worries about the impact of mandatory tax and spending changes to take effect in early January, but hopes that politicians will reach a deal to avoid the "fiscal cliff" helped the market recoup some of those losses this week.

The benchmark S&P 500 also climbed back above the 1,400 level, which could provide support.

U.S. government debt prices mostly dipped on Friday in light post-Thanksgiving holiday trading. Bonds' safe-haven allure faded as investors scooped up stocks.

On the open market, the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury note traded 1/32 lower in price to yield 1.685 percent, up 0.5 percent from late on Wednesday. The 10-year note's yield was poised for its first weekly rise in five weeks.

GOLD AND OIL GAIN

In commodities, gold rose to its highest level in more than a month on Friday, gaining 1 percent as a combination of a decline in the dollar, options-related buying and technical support sent the metal up near $1,750 an ounce.

Oil rose above $111 a barrel on Friday as better-than-expected German business sentiment data helped ease worries about demand in the euro-zone economies, boosting the euro against the dollar, while fresh protests broke out in Egypt and led to supply concerns.

Brent crude futures were up 53 cents at $111.08 a barrel at 1607 GMT. U.S. crude was up 81 cents at $88.17. The U.S. market, which was closed on Thursday for the Thanksgiving holiday, will not issue a formal settlement price until later Friday.

On Thursday, Israel began withdrawing its army, which had been poised to invade the Gaza Strip in pursuit of militants firing rockets into Israel.

Although the Gaza ceasefire is holding, violence has emerged in Egypt. In Cairo's Tahrir Square, thousands of people participated in demonstrations against President Mohamed Mursi. Police fired teargas into the crowd in an attempt to disburse it.
