Add 'Registered to vote' as a life event on Facebook

2 hrs.

If you're feeling patriotic and want your friends to know it, Facebook has just put out a small but timely new feature that lets you tell everyone when and how you registered to vote.

It's a big election year, and if you're one of the politically?minded who likes to share such things on Facebook, this new feature is a no-brainer. Just go to your Timeline and, where you would normally put?a status update?or photo, select "Life event" and pick "Registered to Vote" under the "Travel and Experiences" heading.

You'll be able to select location and year, and put in a story or link in case you want your friends to have that info as well. There's a little more info at Facebook's blog post about the feature.

If you're actually looking for an easy way to register, there are lots of sites that can help you; your best bet is to search for "register to vote" and find your state's official voting registration page, or use one of the easy services (like Rock the Vote) that finds it for you.

Striving to Serve ? Deliberate Leadership and Self Improvement ...

I just finished Thou Shall Prosper for probably the third time.? I typically read it at least once a year.? The content, especially when it pertains to business, is superb.? Rabbi Lapin does an excellent job of helping the reader to understand the idea that all people are in a position of service.? It really doesn?t matter if you work for a private or public business, the government, or if you are unemployed.? If you at all interact with anyone, at any time, then you are in the business of service.? I love the concept put forth in the book that business is just the reimbursement for your services, plain and simple.? If you approach business in this manner, then you are never going to be on the side that compensation occurs for deeds not performed.? Many very successful business people are excoriated by those who do not understand this simple concept.?? Those individuals who make up the ?99%? do not understand this concept.? Your level of service, especially service that comes from the heart and soul, is your ticket to your livelihood.? Don?t squander it, and for goodness sake, don?t try to bring down those who discovered this concept long ago.

Finding Fast Methods Of Profitable Outsourcing | Articles for your ...

A vital element that has become a part of operating a successful Internet business these days is outsourcing. A lot of the big shot web marketers and webpreneurs are doing really well at outsourcing, which is leading to the growth of their business. Outsourcing is not a new-fangled concept, on account that it has been utilized by multi-national corporations for quite awhile now. With the dawn of the Internet, though, anybody who has plenty of money to spend can start to outsource his or her business tasks. So the question that comes about in this situation is what do you need to do in order to be certain of success with outsourcing? Within this article, we will be talking about some hints for understanding outsourcing.

Always be confident that you are apparent with your project scope and also its schedule in an apparent manner. The more straightforward you are with your candidate, the more optimal the results with be. There should not be any miscommunication when it comes to the scope and schedule. Let us say, for example, that you would like for your project to be done in approximately two weeks. If you do not make this clear right in the beginning, your worker may take longer than that. The same is applicable to the scope of the project; do not take the candidate for granted, as he or she may not know everything. You should put things into words right from the get-go.

It?s essential that anyone you hire when outsourcing is able to understand your needs and instructions. This is important because when you have a communication gap with the people that you?re outsourcing to, it slows down work. When you and the person you?ve hired misunderstand each other, this can create all kinds of difficulties. It?s therefore a good idea to talk back and forth with them a few times as part of the interview process.

Make sure that there?s mutual understanding when you correspond and discuss the potential arrangement. This factor can have a huge impact on the success of your project. Hop over to floristscalgary.tripod.com/blog.html for smart facts.

You don?t want to outsource tasks if it?s going to take more time to figure out the project and hire someone than it would to complete it on your own. When getting started, you will want to outsource every aspect of your project. In cases where it?s not going to save you time or money, why do it? There?s no reason to pay someone to do something that?s not going to help you save time. So do some calculations before deciding whether or not to outsource. When you?ve decided that a task isn?t worth the time it would take you to complete it, that?s when outsourcing is the way to go.

There?s something about outsourcing that makes it tick. Even though you can always hire people in-house, outsourcing has its own appeal. The real benefit of creating an effective outsourcing plan is that you get a lot of stuff done for a cheap price. Of course, what type of result you get is also related to the price you pay. As you become more comfortable with outsourcing, you can gradually increase the amount you invest into it. Go ahead and make outsourcing an important part of your online business, it?s worth it.

WikiLeaks' Assange to address U.N. on asylum bid

UNITED NATIONS (AP) ? WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange plans to address a meeting on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly via a videolink from his hideout at Ecuador's London embassy, seeking to draw new attention to his efforts to avoid extradition to Sweden over sex crimes allegations.

Ecuador's mission to the United Nations said Tuesday that Assange was scheduled to speak Wednesday alongside foreign minister Ricardo Patino at a specially convened event to discuss his asylum case.

The Australian activist is seeking to avoid extradition to Sweden for questioning over sex crimes allegations and has been sheltered inside Ecuador's embassy in London ? beyond the reach of British police ? since he fled there on June 19.

Since then President Rafael Correa has granted Assange asylum, but he is unable to leave the country's tiny mission. If he steps outside the apartment-sized embassy, he will be arrested by police who surround the building.

Assange and his supporters claim that the Swedish sex case is part of a Washington-orchestrated plot to make him stand trial in the United States over his work with WikiLeaks, which has published thousands of secret U.S. diplomatic cables and other documents. Both Sweden and the U.S. reject that claim.

In his last public appearance, a speech in August from the balcony of Ecuador's embassy, Assange cast himself as the victim of an American "witch hunt" over his secret-spilling website.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague said that the U.N. was dealing with "much bigger issues" than Assange's fate, but acknowledged there was no current prospect of a resolution to the case in discussions with Ecuador.

"We agreed that we would continue to talk, and we will continue to talk about this issue with the government of Ecuador. But I see no sign of any break through," Hague told reporters at the U.N.

He said the U.K. had an obligation to uphold British and European law by sending Assange to Sweden. "This may go on for some time," Hague said.

Quito and London had clashed over the case, after the U.K. suggested that one potential option would be to invoke a little-known law to strip Ecuador's embassy of diplomatic privileges ? meaning police would be free to move in and detain Assange.

Hague has insisted that diplomats have no intention of carrying out that action, and had simply been briefing Ecuador on all possible legal options.

Lucas' wife suffering from cancer

Actor Josh Lucas'?new bride has revealed she is battling cervical cancer.

Jessica Henriquez risked her health and life to carry the Sweet Home Alabama star's son Noah to full term in June after doctors advised her to consider undergoing a hysterectomy, and now she faces a full-on cancer battle after learning the disease has advanced from stage 1A to stage 1B.

Henriquez tells the Huffington Post she kept the news to herself until she fell for Lucas and began a whirlwind romance last year that turned into marriage in March and while she was mulling over her options she fell pregnant.

She says, "I hadn't thought about children. It wasn't my dream since I was a little girl to have a family, but when a doctor looks you in the eyes and takes that option off the table, it immediately sets something off in you - this motherhood gene."

Henriquez chose to continue with the pregnancy against doctors' advice, adding, "I think that things happen in life that you have to pay attention to."

Little Noah was born in June and now the proud mom is convinced she made the right decision: "I don't for a second regret anything... If the cancer has progressed because I did nothing for a year to contain it or treat it, I don't feel any guilt, and I don't feel like it was a bad decision.

"Every morning that I wake up with Josh and Noah, I'm even more assured that it was the right decision for me."

Henriquez will continue treatment.

Apple Safari 6 not released for Windows yet

Apple Safari 6 not released for Windows yet

Apple has released Safari 6 for the OS X platform. But the update is not yet out for Windows operating system.

This is unusual because Apple tends to release updates for both the platforms together.

There can be only two reasons why Safari 6 is not out for Windows yet. Either Apple has given up on it on this platform. Or the development work is still ongoing and we would get it in the coming days.

In any case, few people would miss it looking at the market share of Safari browser on Windows!

A friend of mine is disappointed though as he is one of the few who prefer Safari over Chrome and Firefox on Windows OS!

US scrambles to rush spies, drones to Libya

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The U.S. is sending more spies, Marines and drones to Libya, trying to speed the search for those who killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans, but the investigation is complicated by a chaotic security picture in the post-revolutionary country, and limited American and Libyan intelligence resources.

The CIA has fewer people available to send, stretched thin from tracking conflicts across the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

And the Libyans have barely re-established full control of their country, much less rebuilt their intelligence service, less than a year after the overthrow of dictator Moammar Gadhafi.

The U.S. has already deployed an FBI investigation team, trying to track al-Qaida sympathizers thought to be responsible for turning a demonstration over an anti-Islamic video into a violent, coordinated militant attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.

Ambassador Chris Stevens, and three other embassy employees were killed after a barrage of small arms, rocket-propelled grenades and mortars tore into the consulate buildings in Benghazi on Tuesday, the 11th anniversary of 9/11, setting the buildings on fire.

President Barack Obama said in a Rose Garden statement the morning after the attack that those responsible would be brought to justice. That may not be swift. Building a clearer picture of what happened will take more time, and possibly more people, U.S. officials said Friday.

Intelligence officials are reviewing telephone intercepts, computer traffic and other clues gathered in the days before the attacks, and Libyan law enforcement has made some arrests. But investigators have found no evidence pointing conclusively to a particular group or to indicate the attack was planned, White House spokesman Jay Carney said, adding, "This is obviously under investigation."

Early indications suggest the attack was carried out not by the main al-Qaida terror group but "al-Qaida sympathizers," said a U.S. intelligence official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly.

One of the leading suspects is the Libyan-based Islamic militant group Ansar al-Shariah, led by former Guantanamo detainee Sufyan bin Qumu. The group denied responsibility in a video Friday but did acknowledge its fighters were in the area during what it called a "popular protest" at the consulate, according to Ben Venzke of the IntelCenter, a private analysis firm that monitors Jihadist media for the U.S. intelligence community.

The U.S. had been watching threat assessments from Libya for months but none offered warnings of the Benghazi attack, according to another intelligence official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about U.S. intelligence matters.

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, questioned whether the consulate had taken sufficient security measures, given an attempt to attack the consulate in Benghazi a few months ago.

Carney said that given the 9/11 anniversary, security had been heightened.

"It was, unfortunately, not enough," he said.

That paucity of resources also applies to the intelligence officers available to monitor Libya on the ground.

With ongoing counterterrorism operations in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen, as well as the civil war in Syria, the CIA's clandestine and paramilitary officer corps is simply running out of trained officers to send, U.S. officials say, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the deployment of intelligence personnel publicly. The clandestine service is roughly 5,000 officers strong, and the paramilitary corps sent to war zones is only in the hundreds, the officials said.

Most of the CIA's paramilitary team dispatched to Libya during the revolution had been sent onward to the Syrian border, the officials said.

The CIA normally hires extra people to make up for such shortfalls, often retired special operators with the requisite security clearance, military training and language ability. But the government mandate to slash contractor use has meant cutting contracts, according to two former officials familiar with the agency's current hiring practices.

To fill in the gaps in spies on the ground, the U.S. intelligence community has kept up surveillance over Libya with unmanned and largely unarmed Predator and Reaper drones, increasing the area they cover, and the frequency of their flights since the attack on the consulate, as well as sending more surveillance equipment to the region, one official said.

But intelligence gathered from the air still needs corroboration from sources on the ground, as well as someone to act on the intelligence to go after the targets.

The Libyan government, though it claims it is eager to help, has limited tools at its disposal. The post-revolution government has been slow to rebuild both its intelligence capability and its security services, fearful of empowering the very institutions they had to fight to overthrow Gadhafi. They have made a start, but they lack a sophisticated cadre of trained spies and a large network of informants.

"The Libyans in just about every endeavor are just learning to walk, let alone run," said Paul Pillar, a former senior CIA official and author of the book "Intelligence and U.S. Foreign Policy."

"There is confusion and competing elements within the new provisional government which complicates the task of creating new institutions, including the intelligence service," he said.

"There are still some aspects of the intelligence services that still work," says Barak Barfi of the New America Foundation think tank, including eavesdropping on cellphone calls and spying on computer traffic using equipment from the Gadhafi era. Barfi spent months with members of Libya's transitional government as they tried to rebuild the nation's services and infrastructure.

But the Libyans have not yet even taken full command their own security services almost a year after Gadhafi's fall, Barfi said. That's given the tens of thousands of militiamen who helped overthrow Gadhafi the time they needed to organize and seek new targets, especially Western ones, he said.
